What size resistors and LED should I use?
I am doing a series of test and want to use LEDs and make the light green or orange when the 5 different DPDT switches are positioned forward or backward. I have to use switches SPST 4 LED alternating red. The energy source is the DPDT 12 V and 5 V SPST is I easily see the LED head in front of them 3 or 4 feet apart in the use of daylight. What would be the best combination of strength LED size and use?
Use Ohm's Law to calculate the resistance, which is in series with the LED. You need to know the value of direct current to the LEDs, then simply divide that value in its voltage. Now, you can adjust the value of a resistance slightly higher for a light comfortable and not run it at its peak for longer life of LEDs. Added Note: You can also subtract the LED forward voltage of the supply voltage and use the result as the voltage drop in the resistance can be calculated by dividing by the number of direct current of the LED. This will be a bright light on the previous method above.
