Lines on the face of a golf club?
You know how there are these parallel lines on the face of a golf club (the face that hits the ball)? When you set your swing up, are those lines supposed to be parallel to the floor when you hit the golf ball, or can it form a "V" shape with your shaft? Which is proper, which hits farthest? Sorry for my lack of proper golf terminology. I'm just getting into the game!
Those "lines" are called grooves, and they are not so much an aiming device as to help someone with lower clubhead speed add spin to the ball.
As far as aiming with them, you can. I usually will have someone use the leading edge of the clubhead, as you want to focus on the ball, and it is easier to line up that edge and refocus on the ball without having to "find your way back" to your spot on the ball.
So, yes the grooves should be parallel to the ground, perpendicular to your target line, and perpendicular to and imaginary line running from your center outward and intersecting with your target line. Reread it and let it sink in. Hehehe.
Some clubs with a lot of bounce(built up mass on the sole of the club to aid in passing through sand or deep rough) will not sit as we have described. Do not be concerned with this so long as the leading edge can be set perpendicular to your target line.
