Vibration and Noise Free Engine Made Possible With Pontiac Engine Mount

The engine is undoubtedly one of the most indispensable parts of your Pontiac vehicle. Considered as the heart of your car, this car component is mainly responsible for converting fuel into mechanical energy so that your car would work. It does this by burning the fuel through the combustion process. It is made up of various parts, and these include the spark plug, connecting rod, piston, valves, piston rings, sump and crankshaft. There are different types of engines, such as 2 stroke engines and 4 stroke engines—but they all share the same function. Aside from the fact that your engine makes it possible for your car to move, your internal combustion engine also tells you if something is going wrong with your car. Some of the telltale signs of engine trouble include pinging, grinding, squeaking, chirping or knocking noises. This can be prevented if you know how to properly take care of your car. Among the basic maintenance procedures you can employ to prolong the service life of your engine is by periodically cleaning and inspecting them.

Another way of keeping your engine in tip top shape is by equipping it with a Pontiac engine mount. As you drive, your engine is exposed to a lot of stresses—and that can be a major cause of engine failure. The Pontiac engine mount prevents premature engine failure by significantly reducing engine noise and vibration. A typical car has a front engine mount and a rear engine mount. When this device is added on your car, it enables the engine to be kept in its proper location. This is possible, because the engine mount connects your engine to the framework or chassis of your car. A typical Pontiac engine mount is made up of a padded bolt and nut assembly in rubber or steel construction. The rubber padding is used to cushion the engine against vibrations. On the other had, the metal brackets keep the engine secured into the chassis of your Pontiac. Not only that, a complete engine mount assembly has a number of features. Some of these include a built-in signal capability, encoder/limit connector, positive motor alignment, and an integral motor.

After about 60,000 miles of driving, your Pontiac engine mount may wear out. Some of the things that you should look for are visible engine mount damage, shifted engine block, separated rubber from the mounting plate, fluid leakage, and fasteners that cannot be torqued. Adding A Circuit Breaker For A Hot Tub

Well if you are at the point that your adding a circuit breaker for your new hot tub or spa the hardest part is over all the planning building the new deck or patio to put the tub on is over it is time to get down to the business of actually using your new hot tub. First if you should hire a professional certified electrician to handle the task of wiring your hot tub you are dealing with your family and friends safety here and remember water and electricity do not mix.

In order to install a circuit breaker you need to remove the cover from the circuit box keep in mind that even though you have thrown the main breaker to the off position the 'box" is still live the main feed usually coming in the top is still hot. The only way to cut the power from these wires is to remove the electric meter. The size of your new breaker will be determined by electrical needs of your new tub see the manuals for the hot tub to determine the size of the breaker. No matter what you will need a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) if the circuit is shorted out the circuit will automatically shut off for example if you toss a hire drier in a tub and it is hooked up to a GFCI circuit a person in the tub will not be harmed. A GFCI circuit can be achieved in one of two ways first and probably the easiest way is to simply install a GFCI breaker.

A GFCI breaker look similar to a standard circuit breaker but with one very obvious difference a white pig tail. Precautions needs to be taken when hooking up the wires to your new circuit breaker, start with the ground wire and terminate it first follow this by terminating the white or neutral wire this in effect is like hooking up the drain in a sink prior to hooking up the supply, finish by hooking up the black or the power/hot wire. Make sure your connections are secure and all screws are tight.

I have included just a brief overview of this dangerous operation please consult with a licensed electrician also check with your local building department you may need a permit for a new hot tub, there are many factures that we have not gone over such as the size of your incoming electrical service is it large enough to support a hot tub? How about wire size this is also important and depends on a several factures to determine the proper size.

How To Compete with Asia and Win

What is the ultimate goal of customer service? At DC Electronics, a wiring harness and cable assembly company headquartered in San Jose, California in the Silicon Valley, every employee can answer this question. As their service policy boldly states, “Customer success is everything.

With global sourcing now a common fact of life, the factors impacting customer success are shifting. To stay one step ahead of those changes, DC has expanded their focus on service to include not just error-free, on-time production and delivery, but also a new, cutting-edge approach to commodity management. By taking on more responsibility for this function, DC can lower customer costs beyond global price savings, giving their customers and their own company a strong competitive advantage.

“We are commodities managers. We do it all”, says VP of Sales and Marketing, Chris Hinshaw. “It’s about maximizing services and efficiencies for total cost reduction”. Hinshaw says this push toward commodities management is the key to DC’s success. “We offer our customers systems that lower costs in places they may not have thought possible.”

Hinshaw puts DC’s fundamental strategy in simple terms.  “Our customers want to be competitive. They want to be successful, and so do we. If they win, we win”. And the way to win, says Hinshaw, is through top-notch commodities management.

In some cases DC’s commodity management service even includes placement of DC employees in customer facilities for short or extended periods. For instance, two DC staffers work exclusively at the Applied Materials plant in Austin, Texas. By the end of the year, DC’s top five customers are expected to have on-site DC staff members.

In 2005 DC opened a branch in Singapore to support their customers’ Asian Operations.  The DC office there, with three managers and an administrative assistant, handles prototyping and processes orders for assembly production done by 15 employees at a 12,000 square-foot facility in nearby Bantam, Indonesia.

The markets in which DC supplies products and services are diverse. DC has 150 customers in such industries as agriculture, construction, industrial manufacturing, medical, nuclear, semiconductor, telecommunications, transportation and underwater.

“We have a broad spectrum of customers to protect us from downturns because all of our segments have them,” Hinshaw said. “We are very strategic with our businesses and the diversification of our portfolio. We are careful not to over-commit because of risk.” No customer represents more than 18 percent of DC’s business.

The largest sector at 34 percent is medical, and the major customers are Varian, Philips Medical and Intuitive Surgical. Contract manufacturing is the second-largest segment at 22 percent, and the main customers are Flextronics, Solectron, Benchmark and Venture.

Ranking third at 20 percent is the scientific and instrumentation sector, whose customers are Trimble, Coherent and Agilent. The semiconductor market, comprising 12 percent, is fourth, with Applied Materials as the major customer.

Eight percent of DC’s business comes from the engineering department, which is staffed by eight engineers and 35 field technicians. In addition to prototyping, they become involved in such projects as on-site repairs, builds and reworks. For some large clients, DC only provides services – no products. Up to 3,000 auto-CAD drawings are produced annually.

“One of our great strengths is engineering and field service,” Hinshaw said, noting that four years ago the engineering department began reporting to him. “OOur engineering department really sets us apart from other companies in the industry.”

After registering $28 million in sales last year, 2007 income is expected to hit $30 million. For 2008, the number is projected to grow by a hefty 20 percent to $36 million. Such a pace would match 2001-06 when sales doubled, largely due to growth in the medical and engineering services segments. Profit goals have been attained annually.

The growth also resulted from what is called drop-in or non-forecasted business at DC. Accommodating such quick-turnaround orders contributes to 30 percent of DC’s total sales.

“Because a lot of our customers have seasonality and 70 percent are forecasted, we can free up our manufacturing floor to build drop-in orders,” Hinshaw said. “One time we filled a drop-in order for 700 fan assemblies in three hours. We don’t even hesitate to accept orders like that anymore. One way to manage a commodity is to keep slack in the line.”

Among the wiring harnesses and cable assemblies, all of them custom for the low volume market, DC makes many types. They include flexible and semi-rigid coax, sub-miniature coax, discrete, circular, high density, IDC and MDR (1 and 2mm), PCMCIA and SCSI (I-III). Some electromechanical assembly is done. DC has a Class 10.000 clean room and electrostatic discharge manufacturing.

The simplest product made by DC is a six-inch wire with a terminal on each end. Conversely, the most complex is a harness that takes 15 hours to build. The longest cable is 500 feet. Cost per item ranges from 40 cents to $8,000.

DC does tooling in a fully equipped CNC machine shop with a Haas mini mill and a Sharp unit that does electrical discharge machining. Injection molding is done on Newbury 30-ton presses. Among the items are overmolds, end connectors, smart cables, Y molds and ferrite molds. The products are made from silicone, Santoprene and PVC in assorted colors, including those in the Pantone spectrum.

Among the pieces of equipment are Schleuniger stripping machines. Planned acquisitions include a bend tester, environmental chambers, salt-spray testing unit and a temperature and humidity chamber.

“We do it all ourselves, which is easier than farming it out,” said Ruben Macias Jr., 37, vice president of operations. “We cannot afford the time to get in line somewhere else because we’ve got to deliver for our customers.”

Products are made in a 32,000-square-foot building by a production staff of 200, including 35 on second shift. Cellular manufacturing is used, so every production employee can do a complete build, including pretesting.

An order may consist of one item or up to 12,000 units annually. More than one million items are produced yearly. Sixty-five percent of them goes out of state, 30 percent is in California and five percent outside the United States.

With an average of 18 pieces per kit, 5,000 kits are shipped monthly. Eight years ago, that number was less than 1,000. Macias attributed the tremendous production gains to implementing Six Sigma, 5S, ISO 9001:2000 and A-620. Employee training is ongoing.

Macias also stressed low turnover, with the average assembler having worked at DC nine years. “They know their jobs, they embrace change, and they grow and keep pace with our customers. There are times when we have to ramp up and drive hard, and our people really can do that. I’m proud to work with them”.

Production also is high due to a working environment described by president Dave Cianciulli Jr. as “honest and open with everyone. Nothing is hidden,” he said. “I don’t want somebody in one department not being successful because of someone in another department. That way the company suffers, and so do our customers.”

The administrative staff consists of 40 people led by Cianciulli, Hinshaw and Macias. They are assisted by managers Leonard Martinez, Quality; Vince Nguyen, Materials; David Tran, Production; Chris Gill, Human Resources and Accounting; and Lou Bottini, Finance. K.A. Chua is the managing director of the Singapore facility, and C.K. Chua is the general manager for Asia.

Everyone at DC is indebted to David Cianciulli Sr. for starting the company in 1979 in a 1,200-square-foot office and warehouse in Sunnyvale, Calif. He was a one-man rep firm selling interconnect devices such as connectors and cables. His mission was to provide high-quality products and customer service.

In 1982, DC became a distributor for 3M products. The transition to manufacturing was made in 1987 when customers persisted in requesting assemblies. As the company grew, different facilities were required, and DC was at two locations in Santa Clara and two others in San Jose, each for three years, before settling into the current building.

Cianciulli Sr., 65, retired 10 years ago, and his son became president. Prior to the position, Cianciulli Jr., 42, worked in telemarketing, customer service and sales.

In his role as president, Cianciulli continues to focus on sales as well as new markets with low volumes and high diversity to fulfill DC’s niche. “ We are different from other companies in two important ways”, says Cianciulli. “First, we can make only one piece if that’s what the customer wants. We are set up to do one-off prototypes as well as large orders. A company making 100,000 pieces a year can’t be satisfying orders that require a five-piece prototype build. DC does a tremendous amount of that. Second, we don’t approach business like we are at war.  We look for strategic partnerships and alliances with other cable assembly companies. We look at what makes the most sense in the long term, not just what will make us the most money in the short term.”

Cianciulli underscores that point by adding, “I do not have a problem investing in a customer if it shows promise as a long-term partner.  If we have to wait a year to see some payback,” says Cianciulli, “ I’m okay with that."<a href="http://www.dcelectronics.com ">Custom Electronics Cable Assembly</a>

How to Replace a 3 Way Switch and the dangers of not calling an Electrical Professional

As a Licensed Electrical Contractor I find the most common calls I receive from “Do-It-Yourselfer’s†is about changing a switch or receptacle. I hope by reading this article I can shed some light on your task at hand. Since it can be quite confusing even for some electricians, I am going to some detail on the 3 way switch topic. Please read through the complete article to get a good grasp of the how a 3 way switch is wired.

Here are a couple scenarios of the main calls I get from my customers….

“I replaced my 3 way switches and now the bedroom lights turn off when I flip the switchâ€. There are a few reasons for this. But the most common reason is.

When the homeowner disconnected the switch they took splices apart in the box and when they reconnected them they were not in the proper configuration. This can be quite dangerous and expensive. In one case the homeowner had his brand new plasma TV and Stereo system totally… “Fried†When he reconnected his splices he hooked up 220 volts to that outlet.

“I replaced my 3 way switches for my hall. Now when I turn the light off at one end of the hall, I can’t turn it back on from the otherâ€.

This is usually a simple fix. There is a pair of wires called “travelers†and in this situation they are usually reversed with the common wire.
I also receive numerous calls about this from general contractors, handymen, maintenance personal, etc…

Now before we go any further with this article. I want you to understand that I am not writing this article to teach you how to repair or replace a 3 way switch or 3 way systems. I am writing to try and make the point that this is one of those situations where you can end up in some real hot water, and you should call a service professional if you do not have the proper electrical knowledge.

There are many ways to wire a 3 way system. I am going to show you 3 configurations of a 3 way system.
Do not confuse this with a 4 way system!!! (A system with 3 or more switches)

The First thing you need to know. A 3 way system only has 2 switches. If you have any more or less you are not looking at a 3 way system.

Step 1
The first and most important step is to turn off the circuit that you will be working on. Find the right breaker in the breaker box and flip it to the "Off" position. If you have a fuse box, find the right fuse and remove it completely from the panel. You can verify that the correct circuit has been turned off if the light controlled by the switch no longer works.
Step 2
The next step is to remove the cover and switch from the box.
Step 3
Verify there is no power in the box. This can be done with a tic tester available at Lowes or Home Depot.
Step 4
This is the step that can cause you a big headache so follow it carefully. Before you disconnect the switch determine which wire is connected to the common terminal on the 3 way switch. (The common terminal is usually copper or brown). Mark this wire with tape. Now disconnect the two traveler wires. The screws they are under are the same color. (Usually silver or brass) You might also have a ground wire connected to your switch. (Usually a green or bare copper wire) If there is a ground disconnect it now. If everything is correct you should have now have 3 or 4 wires hanging out of the box.
Step 5
Take your new 3 way switch and locate the common screw. Now take the wire that you marked with tape and connect to this screw. The next step is to connect your two traveler wires to the other two screws. It does not matter which wire goes to which screw as long as there is only one wire under the screw. If you have a ground wire you should now connect it to the green screw.
Step 6
To be safe you can wrap tape around the switch. Make sure you cover the screws so they don’t short to the box. Put the switch and the plate back in the box. At this point you can turn on the power.

Here is a simple test to make sure that your 3 way system is operating properly.

Asus Maximus Iii Gene Motherboard Review

Introduction

Buying a motherboard these days is quite a difficult task since, in terms of performance, there is very little to choose between the top contenders. Brand loyalty is one route but leaves the feeling that something good could be missed out on through lack of awareness of the various offerings. Manufacturers have had a tricky time and most have been forced into an "arms race" of adding more and more features to make their boards stand out. A recent example is the trend towards putting large amounts of copper onboard with little performance gain to show for it but at a disproportionate cost. Why did they do it? Simply because people choose motherboards based on reading the specifications in a quantitative fashion. We think that far greater value for the customer can be attained by putting features (software and hardware) in the package that gives them tangible benefits.

ASUS are a prime example of this. Their strategy is to lead through innovation and not follow the herd. Readers will already be familiar with products such as the Eee range and other home entertainment products they have developed. The ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand is rapidly gaining popularity with extreme gaming and overclocking workshops and seminars being held in many countries. The selection of prizes given out at these events shows how closely ASUS understand the needs and aspirations of their target audience. We've been impressed for some time now with the feature set of ASUS motherboards and think it's now time to review them with a focus on those features and not a plethora of benchmarks comparing 20+ boards that happen to perform within 1% of each other. Today the board in question is the Maximus III Gene, a flagship socket 1156 product for Intel i5 and i7 (8XX series) processors.

Board Layout

The box comes in a nice package that prominently displays the ROG logo showing that this is an enthusiast and gamers motherboard.

It truly is Windows 7 ready and everything was detected correctly during our 64-bit Windows 7 Pro setup. Installing the additional drivers and utilities that come with the enclosed CD is still highly recommended though.

The onboard X-Fi supports EAX 4.0 for advanced HD sound and comes with a filter to eliminate background noise while recording. We tested in both 5.1 and 7.1 channel modes with no distortion and good separation of channels.

There are so many features that the front and back of the box are not enough and an extra flap is used to elaborate further. It also adds to the "gift box" effect and may make a nice present this holiday season.

All these features on a board that's not cluttered and is mATX! As well as the SLI/CrossFire capabilities we can see that it is passively cooled with a big heatsink in the bottom right. There is a twelve phase power design consisting of eight phase CPU power, two phase VTT power and two phase memory power. There are 7 SATA-2 ports and an E-SATA port header. The four DDR3 slots operate in dual channel mode and support memory up to 16GB DDR3-2133 through the BIOS. The red button allows for recovery without clearing the BIOS if settings are too extreme during overclocking. The addition of an on/off switch helps testers or those not using a traditional case. A legacy PCI slot is there for that old PCI RAID controller etc. you just cannot bear to part with. RAID 0 and 1 is supported on the SATA-2 ports and will be cost-effective until SSDs become mainstream.

PS/2 keyboard connectors are the only look to the past and 8-channel audio is fully supported and configurable when the full audio drivers are installed. The USB port on its side is actually the ROG connector and allows a notebook to monitor and configure the PC remotely. In practice this worked well with our Eee PC 901 using the supplied cable. Firewire and E-SATA (there's another E-SATA and Firewire connector on the other side of the board for cases which have those connectors on them) are included. The addition of a CMOS clear button on the back panel will please overclockers and save tension reaching for a jumper with a pair of long-nosed pliers while holding a torch between teeth and aiming it with tongue manipulation....

Included in the box are SATA cables with metal bars to make them easy to remove and still keeping them securely in place against accidental removal - a long way from the first SATA cables which are still supplied with many motherboards today. The ROG cable is just a USB (male to male) lead. Padding on the back shield forms a snug fit with the edge of the board and it is thickly constructed making it easy to fit and remove without bending. The SLI bridge is easy to install and the most notable thing is the Q-Connector for case wires (HDD, power, rest switch etc.) so that they can be fitted there and the entire connector taken out as needed for access. This is the sort of time saving feature that leaves people wondering why no-one has thought of it before.

Overclocking

Socket 1156 processors, like their socket 1366 siblings are renowned for their overclocking capabilities so we started with high hopes for our i7-870 on this board using the extensive options available in the BIOS. The BIOS is too detailed for us to explore in this review but we recommend viewing this YouTube video here and if your appetite is whetted for more information you can download the manual from the ASUS Support Site.

Our first target was 3.5GHz and this was achieved without any noticeable increase in temperatures (the Corsair H50 sealed processor watercooler is truly remarkable and completely silent). All benchmarks were run without problems.

Incredibly, the system posted and booted into Windows at 4GHz on stock voltage. Running the Far Cry 2 benchmark caused a lockup though and we increased the processor voltage to 1.35V before the CPU completed all tests without any problems. Even so, 1.35V is still on the low side compared to some extremes we have seen with simple cooling.

We conducted our tests at stock speeds though to allow readers to make comparisons on a fixed baseline.

Test Results

We should explain why we have selected certain tests and why we repeated them for 1, 2, 3 and 4 cores. People buy motherboards for different uses and whether you are a gamer who can make do with 2 cores or an avid video editor who will max out 4 cores determines which processor you will pair the board with.

We always advise not skimping on motherboard selection and purchasing a high end, fully featured one like the Maximus III Gene (high end by socket 1156 standards - half the price of a socket 1366 board) provides the greatest flexibility as we will see. The benchmarks will show which processor is best suited for particular uses. We are comparing the ASUS Maximus III Gene with the ASUS M4A79T Deluxe.

The advantage of DDR3-2000 versus DDR3-1600 and the Dual channel memory can be clearly seen. Synthetic benchmarks eliminate other bottlenecks and show the true potential of increasing cores. Only users of the AMD platform will be able to replace their current CPU with a 6-core "Bulldozer" one next year. There are no plans for 6-core "Gulftown" (aka i9) processors able to fit in a socket 1156 motherbaord.

Similar situation with very linear scaling.

The number of cores has no effect on memory bandwidth (fortunately there are no single core Athlons in the AM3 configuration).

The results here are quite interesting and a leveling off after 2 cores for the i7-870 but more linear for the slower AMD X4 CPU. The results are above average for boards of these chipsets.

Far Cry 2 is widely acknowledged as being the game to bring any system to its knees and we deliberately tested at the highest settings for each resolution and with 8x anti aliasing. Frame rates are perfectly playable at all resolutions (we don't have a 30" monitor for the ultra high resolutions).

Contrasting the FPS of Far Cry 2 is Tom Clancy's HAWX which is a cross between flight simulator and air combat game and we achieved over 60 frames per second at all resolutions.

Horror games are currently popular and Resident Evil 5 has a great benchmarking function built in. The board performed very well in this test.

Conclusion

We've deliberately avoided getting bogged down with dozens of benchmarks comparing many motherboards as this is one component where the performance varies by usually less than 1% across the range. Readers looking to see these types of benchmarks are pointed in the direction of AnandTech and similar sites. We have already explored in depth and rest assured that the Maximus III Gene is in the top 3 in virtually every test in available benchmarks. Instead we are focusing on the added features and bundled software that add unique value to each motherboard.

ROG motherboards have never disappointed in terms of features and the Maximus III Gene is no exception despite its mATX form factor which puts a pressure on available "real-estate". The choice for this seems to be to allow the board to be used for small form factor and easy to carry systems for gamers to use in LAN parties and gaming conventions etc.

Overclocking used to be the realm of the connoisseur requiring great skill/experience and tenacity with nerves of iron required and the constant danger of equipment destruction adding tension over the hours it took to get a stable overclock. No longer is this the case now that ASUS have made it easy for everyone (and no longer can we impress women at parties by introducing ourselves as PC overclockers....) with PC stepup, iROG connect, MemPerfect and a host of utilities within Windows making it easy to get professional results in a fraction of the time and with little or no risk.

When everything is taken into account we are convinced that the ASUS Maximus III Gene is the best socket 1156 motherboard currently available and is keenly priced for its target market.
